The Toronto Maple Leafs may be renowned for holding the futility record for current Toronto sports franchises of having endured 58 disappointing years without winning a Stanley Cup. But for the Toronto Blue Jays, it appears as though that they aren’t too far behind in comparison.

Having last captured the title back in 1993, the Blue Jays themselves have gone 32 years without even GETTING BACK to the World Series, let alone even winning one. In doing so they are now among a select number of MLB teams with one of the longest World Series droughts that could end this year.

Blue Jays have one of the longest World Series drought in MLB – is it their time to change that?

Taking a look at some of the current contenders in the MLB Playoffs, courtesy of MLB.com, at 41 years, it has been over four decades since the Detroit Tigers secured a championship title. As for the Seattle Mariners, they have yet to make a World Series appearance since their inception in the league back in 1977 to make it a 48 year drought for the AL West champs. As for the league-best Milwaukee Brewers, believe it or not it’s been over 55 years for them as they have also never won it all in their existence.

The Blue Jays will certainly hope that they don’t need to join them in extending their own streak. After all, they have looked locked-in so far after two postseason games. Dominating one of the best baseball teams of all time in the New York Yankees to date, Toronto has outscored New York 23-8 in the process with their hitting and starting pitching working to almost perfection.

More importantly, it is their current makeup of the team that makes this Blue Jays team even more scary and more likely to accomplish winning it all. In the past the Blue Jays relied mainly on the star players to carry them to the Promised Land, right now it is the likes of Nathan Lukes, Ernie Clement, Daulton Varsho and others helping to supplement the offensive explosion in fueling the team to success and winning.

In addition, the tantalizing deployment of Kevin Gausman, Trey Yesavage and Shane Bieber as their playoff rotation feels like throwing a three-headed monster of aces at opposing teams to deal with. If the bullpen can tidy things up after Sunday’s hiccup and look more like the final week of the 2025 regular season, this Blue Jays team could be unstoppable and well on their way to finally end the championship-less streak for good.
