The Toronto Blue Jays have managed to maintain some depth for their bullpen. Left handed pitcher Ryan Borucki cleared waivers on Thursday and was assigned to Triple-A Buffalo.

Borucki is in his second stint with the Toronto Blue Jays. Originally drafted in the 15th round of the 2012 MLB draft, Borucki was a member of the Blue Jays organization until June of 2022 when he was traded to the Seattle Mariners. Over the next few seasons he bounced around to several teams, before he returned to the Blue Jays last month.

Blue Jays hang on to bullpen depth option

On August 25, the Blue Jays signed Borucki as a free agent a week after he was released by the Pittsburgh Pirates, in the hopes that he could shore up a bullpen that was, at the time, struggling to have any kind of consistency.

Borucki only managed to get into four games with Toronto, throwing 4.1 innings, but he didn't allow a single run on three hits, with five strikeouts and four walks. Despite the impressive numbers, Borucki was squeezed out by the numbers game. He was designated for assignment on September 15, in order to make room for Trey Yesavage on the 40-man roster, ahead of the highly touted prospects' big league debut on Monday.

Borucki won't have a lot of time to settle in with the Bisons, as their season is coming to an end this weekend, when they wrap up their series at home against the Scranton-Wilkes Barre RailRiders on Sunday. It could be a move that means nothing in the long-term, but the way the Blue Jays have had injuries flare up over the last few weeks, stashing Borucki in their minor league system could pay off in a big way down the road should they all of a sudden need a lefty option out of the bullpen.
