A third-inning home run by Texas Rangers centre fielder Wyatt Langford left a lasting impression on a couple of fans at Rogers Centre on Thursday (Jun. 25). The three-run home run off Kevin Gausman sailed into the centre field seats where it was retrieved by a fan wearing a Toronto Blue Jays jersey.

The adult fan looked impressed with himself. Everybody who goes to any game is always hoping for that moment. To go home with a souvenir from the game. Even better if that souvenir didn't cause you to pull out your credit card. To catch a foul ball, or better yet, a home run ball, is something that not every fan says they get to do.

But once the ball was in the hands of that Blue Jays fan, he looked around and his next decision is what made him go viral on social media. He gave it to a younger fan, wearing Langfords jersey.

Whether the young fan was from Texas and came to Toronto to see the game, or whether he lives in Toronto and cheers for the Rangers instead of the Blue Jays we'll never know. But what we do know is that that Toronto fan gave that kid a memory that will last a life time.

Not the first time Blue Jays fans have happily given away home run balls

This is becoming more common place at Rogers Centre over the years. In May of 2022, Blue Jays fan Mike Lanzillotta caught a ball hit by New York Yankees star Aaron Judge. Lanzillotta then handed the ball to an unsuspecting nine-year-old Yankees fan Derek Rodriguez, who immediately paid him back with a hug and tears of joy. Rodriguez also got to meet Judge later, creating another feel good moment at Rogers Centre between fans of opposing players.

These kinds of moments also make you appreciate the generosity of Blue Jays fans in particular. There have been so many documented moments of fans in other stadiums loosing their minds over who rightfully owns the ball that was hit into the stands. People won't soon forget "Philly Karen" who berated a father for giving his son a home run ball during a game between the Phillies and the Marlins.

The woman charged at the father after he picked up the ball and screamed at him and his kids, before the father threw his hands up in disgust and gave the ball back to the lady. That story did have a happy ending as the family got to meet some of the Phillies players after the game and received some memorabilia from the team.

At the end of the day, that home run ball from Langford likely meant way more to the young fan of the Rangers than it did to the Blue Jays fan. At this rate, all Blue Jays fans would like to see is the ball leaving the park off the bats of the home team, instead of the visitors.
