The Toronto Blue Jays have missed out on their fair share of free agents this offseason. Toronto may have lucked out by missing out on Juan Soto, but they also missed out on a star starting pitcher in Max Fried.

Missing out on Fried has pushed them to look at other options to help their starting pitching out. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that the Blue Jays have shown interest in Nick Pivetta, a free agent veteran who is actually a native to Canada.

Pivetta is a great fit for the Blue Jays, but will come with a strong price as he just declined a qualifying offer from the Boston Red Sox. Toronto is not alone on Pivetta either as Heyman reports that there are many teams in on him.

Blue Jays are reportedly eyeing a perfect free agent fit in Nick Pivetta

Last season, Pivetta was a very strong arm in Boston's rotation. He delivered an earned run average of 4.14 with a FIP of 4.07 and struck out 172 batters across 145.2 innings. Opposing hitters batted .229 against him and he walked opponents at a 6.1% clip generating a WHIP of 1.13.

Pivetta also brings a strong repertoire of five pitches that are also very solid. With those five, he generates an above average chase rate of 30% and an outstanding strikeout rate of 28.9%. Additionally, his control is excellent, as his walk rate ranks in the 80th percentile. His earned run average appeared to be average at 4.14, but he got fairly unlucky as his expected earned run average sat at 3.51.

Those numbers would fit right into the Blue Jays' rotation. It would also help push Yariel Rodriguez to the bullpen, which could positively benefit him and the team.

Overall, adding Pivetta to the mix in the Toronto rotation would be a solid addition. The Canadian is a perfect fit for the Blue Jays and would improve their pitching staff that needs a lift.
