The Colorado Rockies are searching here, there and everywhere for somebody to take over their front office. Bill Schmidt stepped down as the teams General Manager at the beginning of October, creating the vacancy, which could potentially be filled by a member of the Toronto Blue Jays.
Blue Jays could lose key front office exec to open Rockies GM Job
According to reports, the Rockies have started interviewing candidates for that position, including Vice President of baseball strategy for the Blue Jays, James Click. Of all the reported executives in the running for the job, Click is the only one who has prior experience in that specific role as he was the GM of the Astros from 2020-2022.
UPDATE: The Rockies have reportedly interviewed James Click of the Blue Jays, Scott Sharp of the Royals, and Matt Forman of the Guardians, according to @Britt_Ghiroli

Click spent many years working for the Tampa Bay Rays, before the Houston Astros hired him amidst the sign stealing scandal. Previous General Manager Jeff Luhnow had been fired but the core of the club remained intact, giving Click a tremendous base to build from as the Astros were in the middle of a dominant run atop the AL West.
However, after winning the World Series in 2022, Click left the organization. Owner Jim Crane and Click didn't reportedly see eye to eye and a few months after leaving Houston, Click joined the Blue Jays and has served in that role ever since.
One could argue that leaving the Blue Jays for the Rockies wouldn't necessarily be an upgrade, but there are only 30 GM jobs in baseball and the opportunities to interview for those roles don't come up very often. The Rockies also represent a prospective GM with the chance to truly mold a team in their own way.
The Rockies have had a losing record every year since 2019 and have lost more than 100 games three straight seasons, completely hitting rock bottom in 2025 with a 43-119 record, a .265 winning percentage. Their farm system also doesn't provide a lot of hope for future success as they Rockies ranked 24 in the 2025 midseason rankings according to MLB.com.
Whoever takes the job has their work cut out for them at both the big league level as well as revamping the farm system. They'll have a few pieces to build around, including shortstop Ethan Holiday (No. 17 ranked prospect) and 1B/OF Charlie Condon (No. 60 ranked prospect), but both are likely a few years away still from making any meaningful impact in Colorado.
Click hasn't been with the Blue Jays long, but since the beginning of the 2023 season he has been advising GM Ross Atkins, and there have been some notable improvements in in the Blue Jays depth on the farm, via the 2023, '24 and '25 drafts as well as restocking that group at the '24 deadline.

THE BLUE JAYS ARE AL EAST CHAMPIONS! 🔥 pic.twitter.com/J9OXLI9hhv
That work allowed them to make some moves at this years deadline to improve the team and help them win their first AL East title in a decade. Click deserves some credit for all the work that goes in behind the scenes to putting a competitive big league team on the field and it's not a shock to see why Colorado would have interest in him.
While it would be unfortunate to lose a person of his caliber, it's also a feather in the cap to the Blue Jays overall operations team that they are producing and working with sought after talent.
