The Toronto Blue Jays have had many of their sportscasters recognized for their work and excellence over the years spent with the organization and the country as a whole. Whether it be the legendary Tom Cheek, or the more recent play-by-play announcers Dan Shulman and Buck Martinez, they have all made their mark with their outstanding contributions to broadcasting and sports journalism.

This week, another beloved Blue Jays broadcaster has joined the ranks among the distinguished list of recognition for their dedicated work. Sportsnet’s reporter Hazel Mae has been enshrined with the 2025 Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum’s Jack Graney Award, which is an honour given annually to “a member of the media who has made significant contributions to baseball in Canada through their life’s work”.

For Mae, her illustrious professional career all began when she became the anchor for Sportsnet Central way back in 2001, but she didn’t become a permanent part of the Jays organization until more than a decade later. She moved into a role as Toronto’s in-game reporter during the 2015 season. From there, Mae has made a name for herself for her renowned post-game interviews with Blue Jays players that usually included celebratory dunks of liquid to commemorate the team victory.

On top of that, she was often involved in many in-depth Blue Jays coverage, interviews and documentaries as well, making her a valuable mainstay in the organization. Outside of the organization, Mae has also participated in many charitable events across Canada to help raise funds and awareness for many initiatives. As a recipient of the Jack Craney Award, she had this to say, courtesy of Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum:

“Thank you to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame’s Board of Directors and selection committee. Joining the distinguished group of Jack Graney Award winners leaves me feeling deeply humbled and profoundly grateful. This group includes incredible writers, broadcasters and storytellers whom I have long admired, been inspired by, and proudly call colleagues and friends.

While each of us reached this milestone through our own very unique path, we all share a common passion and unwavering love for the game, and for this great country. Words cannot begin to express how honoured I am by this recognition,” said Mae.

Mae now also joins Martinez, Shulman and Cheek as previous winners of the award, cementing herself as a significant influential figure both in the Blue Jays franchise and across the entire Canadian media landscape.
