It was one of the ugliest ways to lose a World Series game in recent memory. A complete base running blunder by Addison Barger in the bottom of the ninth gave the Dodgers a 3-1 win to even the World Series at three games a piece.
With runners on second and third and one out, Andrés Giménez hit a line drive to left field that Enriqué Hernandez came running in on to make the catch. He then doubled off Barger at second base, who for some reason was wandering farther off the bag than he ever should have been, leading to the final out of the game being made on a base running error.

It was an unfortunate turn of events for Barger who just moments earlier had hit a double to the wall, and the ball got stuck under the padding, resulting in a ground rule double. It put runners in scoring position with nobody out after Alejandro Kirk was hit by a pitch to lead off the ninth.

Barger, at second base, represented the tying run while Myles Straw, at third base, came on as a pinch runner for Kirk. After the Barger double, the Dodgers went to the bullpen and brought out Tyler Glasnow who needed just three pitches to get out of the jam and finish the game.
He got Ernie Clement to pop out to first base on the first pitch he saw and two pitches later, Giménez lined out for the double play, which unfortunately mirrored what the Blue Jays had been doing all night.
Against starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto they grounded into a couple of inning ending double plays, while leaving eight men on base and going 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Not exactly the recipe for success in a World Series clinching game. Still, they had a chance to win in the final inning, mostly thanks to some superb pitching throughout the night.
Kevin Gausman had another brilliant start going six innings and giving up three earned runs on three hits while striking out eight. Louis Varland, Mason Fluharty, Seranthony Dominguez and Chris Bassitt combined for three shut out innings out of the pen with just one hit and two walks allowed.
Now the Blue Jays have to do something they have never done before; win the World Series in a Game 7. Earlier this postseason they won the first Game 7 in franchise history when they beat the Seattle Mariners 4-3 at Rogers Centre in Game 7 of the ALCS just 12 days ago.
