Blue Jays already being given insulting odds for 2026 World Series

What's the best way to add salt to a wound?

There's no way to really recover from blowing Game 7 of the World Series, but there is at least the consolation of knowing that the team was good enough to come within a game of winning it all.

That's the reality the Toronto Blue Jays find themselves in, as they were one Miguel Rojas homer away from winning their first title in 32 years. It's of no comfort that the team made it 8.1 innings with a lead in the final game of the season, but it is at least proof that they can hang with the absolute best of the best...Or so we thought.

According to Fox Sports' way-too-early 2026 World Series odds, the Blue Jays aren't even the second-most likely team in their division to get back to the biggest stage in baseball next year.

In fact, the Blue Jays' odds are so low that you may not be able to see them on that graphic. They are tied with the Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres (+2000) for the ninth-best odds in the league to claim the Commissioner's Trophy in 2026.

And while you can argue that a lot of teams on that list are being disrespected (the Brewers and Mariners should not be that low), it should be universally understood that the Blue Jays' placement is the most comical.

Toronto Blue Jays deserve more respect after incredible World Series run

In truth, World Series odds don't matter. That's especially true before the offseason even happens, when there are sure to be additions and transactions that clean up holes on the roster.

Remember, FanGraphs gave the Blue Jays just a 43.6% chance to make the playoffs prior to Opening Day, and Toronto's odds to make the World Series was just 7.0%. Even the most knowledgeable prognosticators don't know what they're talking about, and sportsbooks are designed to invite emotional reactions with the odds they assign teams.

Still, it's just absurd that the Blue Jays came two outs away from toppling the almighty Dodgers and now have worse 2026 World Series odds than the New York Mets, Houston Astros, and Atlanta Braves, all of whom failed to make the playoffs in 2025.

It's not even like this was a Cinderella postseason story, where some scrappy underdog upset a bunch of higher-ranked teams. The Blue Jays were the No. 1 seed in the American League this year, had home-field advantage in the World Series, and crushed the then-reigning AL pennant winners in the ALDS.

Sure, there's some questions facing the franchise this offseason, but there's no reason Toronto shouldn't be right back in the World Series mix in 2026. Apparently, they'll just need to beat the odds yet again to get the respect they deserve.
