Springer Dingers are on the horizon
The Toronto Blue Jays have activated designated hitter George Springer from the 15-day injured list on Wednesday (Apr 29) afternoon. In response to Springer's return to the team, Eloy Jiménez has been designated for assignment.
It's been a whirlwind of a start for the Blue Jays with the number of players who have hit the injured list. Springer's comeback will hopefully be the first spark of many for a team desperate to return to its 2025 offensive dominance.
Springer is the first of many players returning from injury
Springer was placed on the 15-day IL after fracturing his big left toe on a foul ball on April 11 against the Minnesota Twins. Up until that point, Springer had a relatively quiet start to the season. The veteran had a slash line of .185/.290/.370 with an OPS of .661 with two home runs, six runs batted in, and four doubles.
Of course, somebody had to be cut from the team once Springer returned, who unfortunately ended up being Jiménez, and it may end up being a decision the Blue Jays regret down the road.
In 12 appearances, Jiménez slid into the DH role, putting up a slash line of .290/.343/.290 and an OPS of .633. Jimenez also racked up nine hits, all of them singles, with three runs batted in. But what the Blue Jays needed from Jiménez was some pop, and he just wasn't able to deliver that with Toronto. With Jiménez being DFAd, there's little doubt teams will want his services and they can immediately claim him off waivers. While there may not have been room in Toronto, he should quickly find a DH role elsewhere.
Springer will be available off the bench for the Blue Jays' series finale against the Red Sox on Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 29) before returning to the starting lineup, presumably this weekend against the Minnesota Twins in a four-game series.
Springer's return wasn't the first return this week and may not be the last. 2025 World Series sensation Trey Yesavage made his return to the rotation and threw five strong innings in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox. Then there's Addison Barger, who is starting to show signs of a return and is expected to begin a rehab assignment this weekend.
Addison Barger is scheduled to run the bases at the PDC on Thursday, #BlueJays manager John Schneider said.

If all goes well, Barger will likely begin a rehab assignment this weekend.
It may have been an ugly start to the season, but with key pieces slowly starting to come back, there may be hope for the Toronto Blue Jays after all.
