Although the Toronto Blue Jays have made two additions to their bullpen already this offseason, it is still not enough heading into Opening Day 2025. The Jays' roster is fairly incomplete after missing out so many free agents, but some believe that Toronto can land some of the big names who are still available on the open market.
Bleacher Report's latest prediction forecasts the Blue Jays signing left handed reliever Tanner Scott. The southpaw pitched for the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres in 2024, and is one of the best relief options this offseason.
An addition of Scott would be an excellent upgrade for Toronto and would slide into the closer role. This move would push Chad Green into the setup role with Yimi Garcia — the Blue Jay biggest signing so far this winter. Toronto has just one left-handed reliever in the bullpen at the moment in Brendon Little, so adding a high-leverage lefty like Scott would fill a major hole.
The Blue Jays should fulfill Bleacher Report's prediction by adding Tanner Scott to the bullpen
Bleacher Report proposed a three-year, $45 million contract for Scott, which would be extremely affordable for Toronto. The Jays have spent very little this offseason, but have shown their willingness to spend after sending a contract offer to Juan Soto.
Last season, Scott posted a 1.75 ERA with a 2.92 FIP across 72 innings while striking out 84 batters. Opponents hit just .175 against Scott. The left-hander did post a rather poor 12.2% walk rate, but was still able to generate a 1.13 WHIP. Outside of the free passes, these are all excellent numbers.
Blue Jays fans are hoping this prediction comes true, as it would help turn this offseason Toronto's rather quiet offseason around. The Jays still need some offense, but adding Scott would be a great start and a step in the right direction. The bullpen was an issue in 2024, but some of these names linked to Toronto would help revive it.
