Blake Snell has two starts under his belt in the 2025 World Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and they've lost both of those games to the Toronto Blue Jays. After being touched up for five earned runs in Game 1 - he was back on the mound in Game 5 at home, and was once again saddled with the loss.

His pitching lines from Game 1 and Game 5 look almost identical, with Snell being tagged for another five runs in his second start of the series. While he racked up seven strikeouts, he walked four and allowed six hits in 6.2 innings pitched. When he came out of the game the Blue Jays were ahead 3-1, but left a couple of men aboard, who came around to score when Edgardo Henriquez allowed a couple of hits.

Snell also didn't do his team any favours when he allowed the first two hitters of the game to both hit home runs, something that had never been done in a World Series game. Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. made it 2-0 Toronto on the first three pitches on the game.

But none of that seemed to impressed Snell who took a couple of digs at Toronto's lineup that should infuriate Blue Jays fans.

Blake Snell's dismissive comments after Game 5 loss will leave Blue Jays fans fuming

“I’m not one to make excuses… it’s just pretty unlucky. Only so much you can do, and that’s baseball," said Snell in his post game comments. "I mean, they didn‘t really get to me. First pitch of the game—97 fastball up and in, he [Schneider] hits it 98, it goes out. Pretty unlucky. And then Vlad that‘s just a bad pitch. ... And then after that, pretty smooth sailing. Figured out their lineup, what they like to do. And [Daulton] Varsho gets a triple on a 78 exit [velocity]. It’s just unlucky."

Look, when you get to this level of baseball and you're pitching in one of the biggest baseball markets for a team that's looking to win its second straight World Series, you've earned the right to pump your own tires, toot your own horn, be your own cheerleader. But Snell went a little further to try and separate himself from the results of his own outing.

“I mean, Vlad’s a really good hitter, so you gotta do stuff there,” Snell said. “The rest of the lineup, yeah, they’re like ambushing—I mean, if we get to Game 7, I’ll probably see them again so I can’t say much but ... Vlad, good hitter. Schneider, he hit it one mph harder than I threw it. Good location. Varsho triple. Curveball, capped. Luck plays in baseball too.”

Fans from both sides weren't impressed following those comments as they voiced their displeasure on social media. From the Dodgers fans' standpoint it felt like Snell was just looking for excuses, while Blue Jays fans felt like it was another slight at their team when often this postseason the narrative has been that they are 'just happy to be here.'

The Blue Jays are ahead in the series 3-2 and probably didn't need any extra motivation with Game 6 being played in front of their home crowd at Rogers Centre on Friday night. However, there are a number of quotes from Snell's postgame comments that are definitely bulletin board material.
