Biggest win of Blue Jays' 2025 season was also the biggest victory in three decades

The new year is almost here, and before Toronto Blue Jays fans turn the page in hopes of another World Series-contending run, there's one game that'll always be worth looking back at.

October 20, 2025, is a date that'll live in the minds of Jays fans for years to come. It was the day the Blue Jays won the American League pennant for the first time since 1993. It was so important that MLB's Keegan Matheson listed it as Toronto's biggest win of the year.

Frankly, it was not only the biggest win of the year, but it may as well be the biggest win in the last three decades.

Since 1993, there hasn't been much excitement for the Toronto Blue Jays. Yes, Toronto came close to World Series appearances in 2015 and 2016, but fell short to the Kansas City Royals (in heartbreaking fashion) and the Cleveland Guardians, respectively.

In 32 years, there's been a lot of mediocrity, losing seasons, disappointing playoff appearances, and moments that would've had you cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs (not that it was any better). Even as the 2025 season began, there were low expectations for Canada's only MLB team, and their rough April signified that fans were in for another long year.

Then the month of May came along, which led to their incredible summer and ultimately becoming division champs for the first time since 2015. The Blue Jays followed that up by defeating the New York Yankees in the ALDS, and then it was time for the Seattle Mariners in the ALCS.

The narrative for the 2025 ALCS couldn't have been scripted any better, with both teams looking to end their World Series droughts. After a disappointing 2-0 series deficit that looked grim for the Blue Jays, they crawled their way back, which ultimately led to Game 7. It was as dramatic as one would expect a Game 7 to be. Seattle took an early lead and seemed to be in control up until the seventh inning, when George Springer hit one of the biggest home runs of his career.

Springer's go-ahead three-run blast was heard across Canada and the rest of the baseball world. It was a home run that stands beside the likes of Jose Bautista's 2015 ALDS moment and even dare say Joe Carter's 1993 World Series-winning home run. George let the Blue Jays faithful know he has their back.

Once Jeff Hoffman got Julio Rodriguez to strike out in the ninth, the World Series wait was over, and Toronto would have another shot at a championship. It was a win that was 32 years in the making, especially for a generation of fans born after the 1993 World Series.

Although the Los Angeles Dodgers had the last laugh in Game 7, capturing back-to-back World Series titles at the Rogers Centre, there was still a sense of pride for the Toronto Blue Jays. It was a year that'll be remembered for generations to come, and it was all thanks to a Game 7 win in the American League Championship Series.
