The Toronto Blue Jays' 2025 season may be defined by their ability to overcome deficits. They lead the league in that category with 20 – their latest secured in a 5-4 win in ten innings on Monday against the Cardinals, in St. Louis. It set the tone for a series sweep for the Blue Jays but the outcome over the last three games could have been a lot different if the outcome of a single at bat had a bigger effect on the team.
Blue Jays overcome strange Bo Bichette strikeout for another comeback win
The at-bat in question was Bo Bichette’s strikeout in the 10th inning, which was peculiar as he asked for a time out and when it wasn't given Bichette stepped out of the box anyway. The pitch came in for a strike and Bichette was rung up and proceeded to just walk away back to the dugout. When further reviewed it appeared as though Bichette didn't even ask for time.
All in all, Bichette and the Blue Jays let that bizarre moment pass and they followed with a successful comeback victory thanks to Alejandro Kirk’s latest clutch hit, a two out RBI double that brought home the go-ahead run.
The Bichette strikeout while odd, has proven to be an outlier in a tremendous run of consistency over the last month. The Blue Jays are one of the hottest teams in the league with an MLB-best 24-14 record since the beginning of May and a run differential of 187-152. The timing of this streak has been crucial as the Tampa Bay Rays are also in a groove and keeping pace with Toronto for second spot in the AL East.
The Blue Jays' bottom order of the lineup has played a big role with their comeback success, with Kirk arguably being the biggest contributor with a .323 batting average along with five home runs, and 63 hits this season.

In his last 30 games, he's recorded three home runs, 21 RBI, and a .398 batting average. He owns the second-best OPS (.782) among qualified catchers in the AL behind Cal Reigh (1.014). Kirk is looking like a real stud with his clutch hitting this season and the Blue Jays are a team that can be a threat when playing from behind, which makes them an exciting team to watch.
