The Toronto Blue Jays snapped their six-game losing streak on Wednesday (Apr. 8) defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers by a final score of 4-3. With this, they avoided being swept by their 2025 World Series opponents and now have a 5-7 record on the season.
While getting this win is certainly good for the Blue Jays, they undoubtedly have plenty more work to do to get things back on track. Due to their losing streak, they are currently fourth in the American League East standings. However, the season is still very young, and they have plenty of time to bounce back.
Yet, they have also been dealing with serious injury trouble during the early part of the season with their pitching. Cody Ponce is expected to be out for the next six months, while Shane Bieber, Trey Yasavage, José Berrios, and Yimi Garcia are all dealing with injuries. Max Scherzer also left his most recent start after just two innings due to forearm tendinitis.
With how much the injury bug is biting the Blue Jays this season, they would be wise to add to their pitching depth. Because of this, they are now being connected to four of the remaining free agent pitchers.
Blue Jays linked to 4 Overlooked Free Agents
In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Zachary D. Rymer named the Blue Jays as a potential landing spot for Michael Kopech, Justin Wilson, Tyler Anderson, and Marcus Stroman.
Kopech would certainly have the potential to be a solid addition to the Blue Jays' bullpen if signed. In 14 games last season for the Los Angeles Dodgers, he had a 2.45 ERA and 12 strikeouts. This was after he had a 6-8 record, a 3.46 ERA, and 88 strikeouts in 43 games split between the Chicago White Sox and Dodgers in 2024.
Wilson is another intriguing reliever that could give the Blue Jays' bullpen a nice boost. The 38-year-old had a strong season for the Boston Red Sox in 2025, posting a 4-1 record, a 3.35 ERA, and 57 strikeouts in 61 appearances. He wouldn't be a bad veteran for the Blue Jays to add to their depth at all.
If the Blue Jays want to add another starter, Anderson would be a good option for them to take a chance on. The 36-year-old had a down year in 2025, recording a 2-8 record and a 4.56 ERA. However, he was an All-Star in both 2022 and 2024, so he would be an intriguing bounce-back candidate for Toronto to take a chance on.
As for Stroman, bringing him back to Toronto would make for quite the reunion. The 34-year-old righty spent the first six years of his career in Toronto and was a very important part of their roster. But the team and Stroman parted ways on the worst terms. Stroman was overtly critical of how the front office was handling the teams' players, including holding back younger stars like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette in favour of service time manipulation. Stroman also left in a tirade after hearing he'd been traded to the New York Mets at the 2019 trade deadline.
Last season, in nine games with the New York Yankees, Stroman had a 3-2 record and a 6.23 ERA. It was a tough campaign for the 11-year veteran, but maybe the two-time All-Star could bounce back as a Blue Jay again.
