This offseason, the Toronto Blue Jays had a few key members from their 2025 squad leave via free agency. Losing star shortstop Bo Bichette was the biggest one of them all. After all, he had been one of the main offensive driving forces for the Blue Jays ever since the turn of the decade.

However, Bichette may not be the only one that Toronto could end up regretting losing based on some of the stellar performances from former players thus far in Spring Training.

3 former Blue Jays who are making Toronto regret letting them go so far this spring

Ty France

Ty France ended up having a reduced role for the Blue Jays down the stretch last season after they traded for him and Louis Varland at the trade deadline. However, that doesn’t take anything away from the fact that he is a player that could provide good value both offensively and defensively in any given season.

After signing a minor-league deal with the San Diego Padres this winter, France is putting both of those skills on display this spring. The 31-year-old veteran first baseman has batted .370 with a .952 OPS, along with two runs scored and five RBIs in 11 games played. In addition, he has been spotless in 21 innings of work with his Gold Glove defense at first base, while showing his flexibility in taking some reps at third base as well.

Perhaps had the Blue Jays kept the sure thing in France, they wouldn’t need to bet on a comeback attempt by Eloy Jiménez to fill a similar role that France did with Toronto last year.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa

Isiah Kiner-Falefa might have inadvertently been the World Series scapegoat for the Blue Jays last year, however, he still remains one of the more versatile players in the league and can weild a solid bat. After signing a one-year, $6 million contract with the Boston Red Sox this offseason, Kiner-Falefa is rewarding them with a strong audition in spring.

In nine games, the 30-year-old utilityman has posted a .389/.522/.500 slash line with a 1.022 OPS. He's scored one run and has two doubles. Moreover, he has shown improved plate discipline with four walks to go along with just one strikeout in 22 total plate appearances. The former Gold Glove winner has been flawless in the field as well, committing zero errors over 42 innings playing multiple postions.

Kiner-Falefa may have struggled down the stretch for the Blue Jays after joining the team for the last month of the 2025 season and the MLB Playoffs. However, he was forced to get accustomed to their system in very minimal time, which may have affected his overall performance. Perhaps had he been with Toronto since the beginning of the year, he may have resembled more of his 2024 form with the Blue Jays instead.

Seranthony Domínguez

Finally, losing Seranthony Domínguez could turn out to be the one that could hurt the Blue Jays the most. After all, he was a key cog for the Blue Jays bullpen down the stretch and into the postseason after coming over in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles in July of 2025. Domínguez helped to stabilize a shaky Toronto relief corps at the time.

Now with his new team, the Chicago White Sox, he has gotten off to a solid start, pitching two scoreless innings with a strikeout in two appearances. Domínguez carried that momentum into the World Baseball Classic where he is representing the Dominican Republic. In three games, the 31-year-old reliever has continued his scoreless streak while holding the opposition to just one hit with two strikeouts in three innings of work while earning the win against Nicaragua.

Domínguez had a similar dominant streak with the Blue Jays where he gave up just two earned runs in his final 19 appearances for the team during the final two months of 2025. The Blue Jays may have revamped their bullpen this offseason with Tyler Rogers and Chase Lee. Nevertheless, they will certainly miss the timely strikeouts and shutdown ability of Domínguez this coming season.
