2 Blue Jays players playing their way out of Toronto’s 2027 plans

The Toronto Blue Jays have made an enormous amount of transactions this year with the roster being reshaped on an almost weekly basis. The 2026 season has come down to being defined by injuries and that's allowed a myriad of other talent to step in and ply their trade in Toronto. But not all of those auditions have gone well.

Based on the current Blue Jays roster, there have been a few players that have struggled mightily in 2026 and these players could be playing their way out of the team’s plans for 2027.

The Blue Jays 2027 roster is unlikely to include these names

Davis Schneider

After getting multiple opportunities in recent years to show that he can be a big league contributor, Davis Schneider has once again underwhelmed in 2026. They 27-year-old as posted a career-worst .140 batting average, .565 OPS and 34% strikeout rate, along with just 18 runs scored, three home runs, and 12 RBIs in 63 games. He has spent a significant amount of time down in the minors this year as well.

When the Blue Jays left Schneider off the list of September call-ups earlier this month, it appeared that the end could be near for the New Jersey natives time in Toronto. However, with some recent roster moves by the Blue Jays, Schneider has now received one more shot at proving his worth in the final days of the season.

Spencer Arrighetti

It is pretty rare that a perceived valuable piece at the trade deadline would already be on the edges of the team’s plans by next season. But if Spencer Arrighetti keeps playing the way that he has, the Blue Jays could be headed in that direction. Obtained from the Houston Astros in exchange for fan favourite Daulton Varsho at the deadline, Arrighetti has struggled since joining the Blue Jays.

In six games, the 26-year-old right-hander has compiled a 1-4 record with a 6.20 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, giving up 18 runs, including five home runs, with 12 walks and 17 strikeouts in 20.1 innings pitched. In fact, there hasn’t been a single outing yet where he has come out of the game unscathed.

If José Berríos was practically on the bubble for the Blue Jays rotation this year with the numbers that he had last season, Arrighetti’s chances of sticking with the big league club could be in danger.

With minor league options remaining, he may need to spend some time in the minors to rediscover his game before entering back into the equation with the Blue Jays next season.
