Just like that, expect the unexpected with the Blue Jays. Hours shortly after the gut-punching blow that Marcus Semien signed a 7-year contract with the Texas Rangers, the Jays brass bounced back with the blockbuster announcement that they have come to terms with RHP Kevin Gausman.

As first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan and later confirmed by Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi and Ben Nicholson-Smith, the deal is for 5- years and 110M. A nice chunk of change.

Considering Robbie Ray has now agreed to a deal with the Seattle Mariners, the rotation looks pretty decent right now. With Berrios, Gausman, Ryu, and Manoah, the Blue Jays could see if Nate Pearson could fill out the rotation if his arm is good to go.

Now, if the Blue Jays were able to re-sign Ray, this rotation would be as good as it gets. I feel the Jays will be doing some more significant business over the next little bit, and with this signing along with Berrios resigning, I think the stigma of players not wanting to come to play in Toronto is a thing of the past, Springer, Berrios, and now Gausman have proven this.

We all agree that if there is no labor shortage, the AL East will be a blast to watch this season. Obviously, there are some big fish available for the Jays to consider in replacing Marcus Semien, the question now becomes to go big and attempt to replace the offence the team just lost, or should they continue to build on their rotation and bullpen. Apparently, the sky’s the limits. Until then, we can all bask in the fact that the Jays finally got their man, Kevin Gausman is a Toronto Blue Jay.
