The Toronto Blue Jays may not be in the postseason, however, Blue Jays top catching prospect, Gabriel Moreno continues to spark excitement for what’s to come!

As we stand, Moreno is ranked number one on the Toronto Blue Jays top 30 prospect list.  Moreno exceeded the level of impressive in 2021.  The majority of his games were in AA New Hampshire, with two games in the Florida Complex League and the Buffalo Bisons.  Combined in 2021 league play, the Blue Jays top prospect appeared in a total of 37 games with 159 plate appearances and 139 at-bats.  This equaled 51 hits, 8 home runs, 45 RBI, and scoring 30 times.  He played 32 games with New Hampshire, finishing with a .373 batting average.

Moreno Stays Hot in the Fall

Moreno is amongst the group of seven prospects the Blue Jays shipped to the Arizona Fall League. How’s that looking? Let’s say, ALL eyes are on the future Toronto plate-keeper.  In 8 games and 31 at-bats so far, he has 11 hits, six RBI, four doubles, and a home run.  His bat is HOT; holding a .355 average, .462 on-base percentage, and 1.042 OPS.

Toronto Blue Jays top prospect, Catcher, Gabriel Moreno has had a great show-out in the Arizona Fall League. Could 2022 be his year of arrival?

His swing is artistic and fluent.  He shows a great bat path, keeping his through the zone, with quick hands, staying inside of the ball. He looks extremely comfortable at the plate, with a competitive demeanor, good pitch recognition, patience in counts while aggressive in fastball-type situations. His confidence is worn on his sleeve and that is easy to see while evaluating these at-bats.  2021 as a whole, showed well for Moreno’s defensive image.

He also looks very confident behind the dish mechanically, with a good comfortable form of receiving and calling games.  A year ago around this time, his defense was in the works of ironing out kinks, after making a positional switch.

Moreno is estimated to arrive in 2022 with the Blue Jays big club.  It will be an exciting time for Toronto, to have an upcoming offensively sound catcher.
