The Toronto Blue Jays needed a win last night against the New York Yankees and it was shortstop Bo Bichette who stepped up when it mattered most. Not only did he play well last night but Bichette has been a force since the Yankees came to town back on Tuesday.

With the Blue Jays in the hunt for a Wild Card spot, this series against the Yankees is easily the biggest of the year – a dealbreaker that could go set up the Jays for meaningful baseball in October or put them behind in the playoff standings and potentially hit the golf courses early.

So far this series, Bo Bichette has been fantastic, going 2-4 in game #1 with an RBI single in the first inning while also stealing a base and being 2/3 of the hits in Tuesday night’s game for the Blue Jays lineup. He did make a costly base running error late in this game but he was the clubs best batter that night by a long shot.

Last night is the real reason Bichette is blowing up the news feeds, as the shortstop put on a clinic in the batter’s box, going 3-4 on the night with two solo home runs and giving the Blue Jays the lead in the eighth inning and eventually being the winning run after Jordan Romano closed out the game.

In a series that is worth so much, it is Bichette who is leading the drive this time although others are contributing as well such as George Springer and his 3-4 night, Marcus Semien making history with his 44th home run of the season, and starter Jose Berrios limiting the Yankees to just three earned runs through 6.0 innings. Even Vladimir Guerrero Jr. got in on the fun, breaking an 0-20 streak to snag an RBI of his own.

On the defensive side of the game, Bichette was solid as well, fielding multiple ground balls and throwing well across the diamond with ease. This is a good sight to see considering he has seen his fair share of struggles on the defensive side of the ball this season but has been fielding well these past two days.

Overall, the Blue Jays needed this win badly to keep their playoff hopes alive and it was Bichette who led the charge as they were able to beat Gerrit Cole and their AL East Rivals. While the Boston Red Sox won their game and the Blue Jays technically stand pat at 1.0 game back, the Yankees do fall back to only find themselves one game ahead of the Red Sox in the Wild Card.

With Robbie Ray taking the mound tonight, the Blue Jays need another win to make the last few days interesting, and if Bo Bichette can continue to hit like he is, the club could find themselves putting another win in the record books when all is said and done tonight and hopefully back in the Wild Card standings.
