The much anticipated second return of George Springer to the Toronto Blue Jays lineup will happen tonight against the Miami Marlins as reported by Hazel Mae.

Mae tweeted out on Tuesday afternoon that Springer will slot into the fifth spot in the lineup and will man centre field.

Springer reported to the Buffalo Bisons last week for a rehab assignment that saw him draw into five games where he went 3 for 17 with a double and most importantly did not have any setbacks when running the bases.  Springer started the season on the injured list, however, returned at the end of April, but only for four games.  During those games, Springer did not play any outfield and only got into the lineup as a designated hitter, and it was evident he was still nursing an injury he sustained in Spring Training.  The three-time All-Star got just 18 plate appearances before he went back on the injured list.

The Blue Jays signed Springer to a massive six-year deal worth $150 Million this offseason and he was predicted by many writers to be the lead-off hitter and starting centre fielder when healthy.  However, with Marcus Semien putting up MVP type numbers hitting in the lead-off position, Charlie Montoyo has elected to start Springer in the fifth spot in the lineup.

Springer responded during a Tuesday afternoon media availability with “I’m ready to go” for Tuesday night’s game.

The Blue Jays will need to make a roster move and remove one player from the 26-man, which I would suspect to be Rowdy Tellez or Santiago Espinal, as Joe Panik does not have options and Montoyo seems to have a soft spot for the veteran infielder.  Espinal is the best defensive third basemen on the team, but they’ll need a spot for Cavan Biggio in the lineup.  Tellez has the most power of the potential demoted players, but he has just six plate appearances over the last week and only got one at bat in Baltimore.

Next. Gabriel Moreno to 3B?. dark

How excited are you to see Springer tonight and who would you remove from the active roster?
