Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette appeared on the Ross Stripling podcast and gave a ringing endorsement for free agent DJ LeMahieu.

It would appear that it is not just Blue Jays fans getting caught up in the free agent hype. Bo Bichette recently appeared on teammate Ross Stripling‘s podcast and strongly endorsed the signing of DJ LeMahieu.

Bo went even one step further proclaiming that LeMahieu is the best hitter in the game of baseball and it’s not even close. Let that marinate for a second, the best hitter in the game. Bichette opined that LeMahieu is the number one player in the league that he would want to play with.

The podcast is well worth the listen as Bo discusses the training facility in Dunedin, the relationship with his father, all things Vlad Jr. and of course his hair.

The Blue Jays have been linked to LeMahieu all winter, however, they appear to be in a bidding war with the New York Yankees. LeMahieu has spent the past two seasons with the Yankees but it appears they are approximately $25 million apart in their negotiations.

The free agent is reportedly seeking a multi-year deal in the $100 million dollar range while the Yankees seem content around the $75 million mark. The Blue Jays will surely have to open up the purse strings if they are going to pry the infielder from the clutches of the Bronx Bombers.

The AL batting champ hit .364/.421/.590 last season and would greatly improve the Jays offensive attack for years to come. LeMahieu is the poster boy of a professional hitter and would pay dividends on and off the field for Toronto.

Perhaps the brain trust will utilize the Bichette family in their negotiations as the elder Bichette has a relationship with LeMahieu from his coaching days in Colorado.

It would definitely be a changing of the guard and a sign of things to come if the Blue Jays could outbid the Yankees for a free agent, especially one that has already suited up in pinstripes.
