Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Randal Grichuk made an appearance on MLB Network Talk Radio yesterday to shed some light on his perfect Christmas gift.

The Blue Jays have been pretty much linked to a new player almost daily throughout this offseason and it would appear that rumours may evolve into contracts sooner than later. However, this time we are still left speculating and waiting for the ball to finally drop on a signing or two.

The jury is still out on whether this will actually come to fruition before the holiday season but Randal Grichuk has a certain player at the top of his Christmas wish list. For the second time this offseason, Grichuk publicly pleaded his case for the Blue Jays to sign free agent pitcher Trevor Bauer.

During his radio appearance, Grichuk immediately chose Bauer as his perfect Blue Jays Christmas gift when posed with the question. In true Bauer fashion, the hurler once again took to social media to ask fans if Toronto was a good destination.

Grichuk also gave some sound reasoning for the Bauer selection stating “I think anytime you get a bonafide ace, that is something you dream of. A guy you can throw up in a Game 1 of a playoff series and know that you have one heck of a chance to score one run and win a ballgame, that would be very nice.”

Unfortunately for Grichuk, there has not been a ton of Bauer chatter in the various rumours thus far, they undoubtedly have interest but it seems that position players have been more of their focus.

The only free agent starter rumour of late that I can recall is their interest in Jake Odorizzi although the brain trust apparently made an offer to Kevin Gausman before he accepted his qualifying offer. There hasn’t even been any chatter surrounding Taijuan Walker and he spent the second half in a Jays uniform and pitched very well.

Bauer would be an awfully nice Christmas gift for Ross Atkins and company to put under the tree for fans this holiday season. Will it happen, who knows but if Grichuk has any say it surely would?
