The Toronto Blue Jays organization climbed the farm system pecking order according to Baseball America’s newest rankings.

According to Baseball America, the Blue Jays currently boast the fourth-best minor-league farm system in the majors. They were previously ranked sixth climbing two spots in this most recent tally.

The jump in the rankings can be attributed to the drafting of Austin Martin with the fifth overall selection in this year’s entry draft. Martin was a consensus first or second overall pick but somehow fell to the Jays when the Orioles went off the board drafting Heston Kjerstad second overall.

The 21-year old was immediately ranked the second-best prospect in the Toronto organization by MLB.com, second to only Nate Pearson. Also contributing to the increase was pitcher CJ Van Eyk who the Blue Jays selected with their second-round pick. The collegiate arm is ranked 12th organizationally without throwing a pitch professionally.

It is very promising that the organization still has a Top Five farm system following the graduations of Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to the major leagues.

Baseball America’s updated Top 100 prospect list has Nate Pearson (7th), Austin Martin (16th), Jordan Groshans (30th), and Simeon Woods Richardson (65th).

The organization also has a plethora of highly touted International signings honing their craft on the farm as well. The likes of Orelvis Martinez, Alejandro Kirk, Miguel Hiraldo, Leonardo Jimenez, and Rikelvin De Castro highlight a promising International crop.

The Jays scouting department has done a very formidable job in not only scouting talent but identifying signable prospects. The organization managed to sign all five of their draft selections even though they had to go overslot on Martin.

Next. Buffalo should be commended for their efforts. dark

The present and future are very promising in Blue Jays land as the team continues to build a Championship caliber major league product.
