The MLB office announced some tweaks to the 2020 schedule on Thursday, including the re-scheduling of the Blue Jays’ series with the Phillies.

If all goes according to plan, hopefully the Blue Jays will be able to play all 60 games of their 2020 season.

With the announcement from the MLB league office on Thursday, it would appear they’re going to try to get the games in for all teams. The league announced the re-scheduling of all 21 games that have been postponed thus far, including the Blue Jays missed series with the Philadelphia Phillies from last weekend.

According to the new schedule, things are going to be get very busy for the young squad. They’ll now squeeze a double-header against the Phillies into August 20th, right between a three-game set with the Orioles from Aug 17-19, and a four game series with the Rays from Aug 21-24. The third game of that series will be made up as part of a double-header on September 18th.

While it should be seen as a positive that the Blue Jays will have an opportunity to play all of their games, it’s going to come at a cost of playing a ton of baseball in a short period of time. In fact, with the new tweaks to the schedule they are now set to play 24 games over the 25 days remaining in August, and 26 games in 27 days in September. I’m sure you can do the math, but 50 games in 52 days is a lot of baseball.

On the plus side, the Jays have far more depth on their pitching staff than they had a year ago, which is going to be crucial to helping them get through the rigorous schedule. They also have youth working on their side with a lot of their roster, which should help with such a demanding schedule.

The realty is, even with the changes to the schedule, there’s no guarantee that things go the way they’re laid out at the moment. We saw how quickly things can change with both the Marlins and the Cardinals’ situations, and the trickle-down effect was pretty wide-reaching.

Next. Blue Jays trim the roster, option two players. dark

Hopefully the league will be able to stay on track from here on out, but at least for the time being, it looks like the Blue Jays are going to be very busy.
