Blue Jays make appropriate decision regarding Nate Pearson
The Toronto Blue Jays made the appropriate decision in keeping pitcher Nate Pearson off the Opening Day roster.
The Blue Jays are manipulating the service time of young ace Nate Pearson by prolonging his MLB debut until July 29th. This decision is the correct one and I am thankful that the brain trust has the intestinal fortitude to pull it off.
The organization will gain an additional year of control in 2026 conversely prolonging Pearson from hitting the open market. If the young hurler blossoms into the pitcher we all think he will, that week off the roster could save the organization upwards of 20 million dollars.
Pearson started the first exhibition game versus the Boston Red Sox on Monday and struggled with nerves in the first inning. The big-right hander was touched up for four runs in the first inning but managed to stop the bleeding and keep his team in the game.

It appears that Pearson will slot into the rotation somewhere once he is activated onto the active roster at the end of the month. The 23-year old will undoubtedly give the rotation an added boost during this shortened campaign where a quick start out of the gate is paramount.
Last season, Pearson made 25 starts over three minor-league ranks going 5-4 with a 2.30 earned run average while fanning 119 in 101.2 innings of work. The Central Florida Community College alumni was drafted in the first round, 28th overall in 2017 as compensation for the Cleveland Indians signing Edwin Encarnacion.
The shortened season actually sped up his climb to the majors as there is nowhere else for Pearson to pitch with the cancellation of the minor-league seasons. The Blue Jays can not afford to have their prized pitching possession sitting around idle.
So we will all wait a week and then welcome Pearson into the fold with open arms, which hopefully is the beginning of a long, successful run in Toronto.
