Blue Jays: MLBPA tables counter offer featuring 114 game schedule
The MLBPA has tabled a counter offer that includes a proposed 114 game schedule.
According to Evan Drellich of The Athletic, the MLBPA has submitted a proposal to the MLB owners that includes a 114 game schedule. The players are proposing an extended season that would run from June 30th through to October 31st.
The players also presented an opt-out for all players that do not wish to partake in the campaign as well as two-years of expanded playoffs and $100 million of total deferred money. The deferred would only apply if the postseason is canceled.
The counter-offer comes on the heels of the MLB proposal from last week that featured an 82 game schedule with extreme salary cuts. There was speculation that the MLBPA would not even respond or counter the initial offer.

This back and forth is centered around money and at this point, it appears both sides are very far apart in terms of the financial ramifications and salary distribution. The owner’s initial offer was a lowball offer, to say the least, and reportedly did not go over well with the MLBPA.
The 114-game proposal would ensure that the players keep most of their salaries intact, which will be a sticking point with the owners. It is anticipated the games will be played in empty stadiums which owners are saying will cost them $640,000 in revenue per game.
We have heard very little from specific Blue Jays players in regards to the respective offers, although former pitcher Marcus Stroman took to social media last week. The “Stro-Show” informed his followers on Twitter that he was not confident there would be a season. We will have to wait and see if Stroman chimes in on the latest offer from the MLBPA.
Hopefully, this latest counter-offer will bring the two sides closer to an agreement so the players can get back to where they belong and we can add some normalcy to our lives.
