Nate Pearson was in no way, shape, or form going to make the Toronto Blue Jays out of spring training this season, however, that may all be for not under the new revisions for the 2020 campaign.

The MLB and MLBPA are still hammering out the details for if and when the season finally resumes, one of the concessions being proposed is that minor-league baseball officially be canceled for the entire season. This is where the Blue Jays could opt to fast track their future ace and monitor his workload albeit with the big club north of the border.

There is no conceivable way the Blue Jays could permit Nate Pearson to sit out the entire season rather than have him pitch in the majors. Pearson needs the workload to build up his innings more than anyone having only toed the rubber in 123.1 innings scattered across three professional seasons since being drafted in the 1st round of the 2017 amateur draft.

The current stipulations still being debated in regards to the regular season include teams playing in their home stadiums without spectators, increased roster with taxi squad, cancelation of all minor-league seasons, and a condensed amateur draft.

Regardless of the status of the minor league season, it still may be in their best interest to keep Pearson at the MLB level. There is no telling how things will play out in the new proposed 10-team divisions coupled with a shortened season. If the Blue Jays get off to a hot start out of the gate, they could very well position themselves for a postseason run. Pearson would definitely increase those odds.

The 23-year old dominated Grapefruit League hitters this spring allowing one earned run in seven innings of work while fanning 11 in four appearances. It was a very small sample size but enough for everyone to take notice of the overpowering right-hander.

There has been no clarity what the ramifications would be for service time under this newly revised season but one would think there would have to be some tweaking in light of the stoppage. Regardless, the pandemic may play into the hands of Pearson who could find himself in Toronto rather than Buffalo in the coming months.
