Toronto Blue Jays Spring Training News and Notes
With spring training games in full swing, here are some of the latest news and notes surrounding the Toronto Blue Jays down in Dunedin.
Pearson Pitches As Advertised
Nate Pearson did not disappoint yesterday making short work of the Yankees in the first inning of yesterday’s contest. The fireballer fanned Tyler Wade, Miguel Andujar, and Mike Tauchman in his spring debut.
The 23-year old is not expected to break camp with the team but should make the trek north of the border once his service time is no longer a sticking point.

Borucki Out Of The Running For The Fifth Spot
The team has confirmed that pitcher Ryan Borucki is not far enough along to be in the conversation for the fifth and final spot in the rotation. Trent Thornton appears to have the upper hand on Shun Yamaguchi early-on.
Borucki was shelved due to tightness in his elbow and just began throwing off flat ground again yesterday.
Tribute To Fernandez
The Blue Jays will be wearing a black armband on their left sleeve in honour of shortstop Tony Fernandez who just recently passed away. Hopefully, the team will have a patch added to their jersey for the regular season to pay tribute to the legend.
Ryu To Make Debut On Thursday
Hyun-Jin Ryu is set to make his Blue Jays spring training debut tomorrow versus the Minnesota Twins. The hurler signed a 4 year/$80 million dollar pact this offseason and was instantly acclaimed as the staff ace.
The 32-year old will be relied upon heavily to anchor down the rotation this season and beyond.
Going Deep
The Blue Jays have connected for five home runs in their first five games of Grapefruit League action thus far. The likes of Santiago Espinal, Billy McKinney, Reggie Pruitt, Kevin Smith, and Rowdy Tellez have all left the yard.
Tellez also has four hits to go along with his six runs batted in as the slugger attempts to prove he is worth keeping in the fold alongside Travis Shaw.
Impressive On The Bump
T.J. Zeuch, Patrick Murphy and Yennsy Diaz have all impressed in the early stages of camp. The trio has yet to surrender a run in Grapefruit League action play as they battle for a spot on the big league club.
