Blue Jays may be forced to cut ties with Reese McGuire
The Toronto Blue Jays may be forced to cut ties with catcher Reese McGuire following a recent indiscretion in Florida that resulted in criminal charges for the exposure of sexual organs.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, it is being alleged that Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire had a run-in with law enforcement last Friday at a strip mall near Dunedin. The result of the mishap saw the 24-year old receiver arrested and charged for exposing his genitals while in a motor vehicle at a strip mall plaza parking lot.
McGuire is scheduled to appear in Florida court sometime in March, however, the Blue Jays organization has refrained from commenting publicly out of respect for the legal process. It was also being reported that McGuire cooperated with authorities at the time of the incident.
According to the Daily Mail, McGuire was observed masturbating in his vehicle while watching pornographic material in a Dollar Tree parking lot during daylight hours. Hopefully, these facts in issue are not credible but the allegations fit the parameters of the criminal charge laid against the young catcher.

The Blue Jays are now going to have to decide what their next course of action is going to be with McGuire. He was tabbed to be a big part of the catching duo with Danny Jansen this season. If the allegations are in fact true, it may be difficult to keep McGuire in the fold due to the organizational optics.
Caleb Joseph may be the beneficiary of the incident as he was next in line on the depth chart. The organization is chalked full of talented receivers, however, none of them are really in a position to contribute in 2020.
We all know what happened when closer Roberto Osuna had his unfortunate run-in with the law, albeit the incidents are extremely different. Osuna was charged with domestic assault stemming from an incident with his girlfriend in Toronto, the charges were later withdrawn in exchange for a peace bond but Osuna had already been shipped out of town prior to that occurring.
Professional athletes are to be held to a higher standard and positive role models. Unfortunately, exposing your genitals in public does not fall into either of those criteria.
This is going to be a challenging incident to put behind him and If I were a betting man, McGuire’s day in Toronto may have just come to an unofficial abrupt end. The entire incident is embarrassing and a black mark on the organization at a time where there was so much optimism.
