According to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, the Toronto Blue Jays have claimed right-handed pitcher Brock Stewart from the Los Angeles Dodgers and optioned him to Triple-A Buffalo.
During all the trade deadline commotion yesterday, the Blue Jays made an under the radar waiver claim that went unnoticed for the most part. The Jays claimed 27-year old Brock Stewart who had spent parts of four seasons with the Dodgers.
The former 6th round pick in 2014 amateur draft made three relief appearances this season for Los Angeles surrendering eight earned runs in just four innings of work. For his career, Stewart has appeared in 36 games including starting 11 of those compiling a 2-3 record with a 5.46 earned run average with a 7.6 strikeout per nine rate.
Stewart has been roughed up in 16 starts with Oklahoma City this season pitching to the tune of an inflated 7.34 earned run average in 76 innings of work. The right-hander has been torched for 19 homers while fanning 67 during his tenure with the Triple-A affiliate.

The Blue Jays immediately assigned Stewart to Buffalo where he will presumably be a depth piece in the minors until he can right the proverbial ship. With the recent promotions of Thomas Pannone, Buddy Boshers, and Sean Reid-Foley, the Bisons were a little thin on pitching depth.
The hurler had already edited his Twitter profile to reflect that he was a member of the Blue Jays organization and fired off a tweet about his excitement for the new opportunities that lie ahead.
The trade deadline was a whirlwind day with numerous roster moves still to come to fill the voids of the departed players. It will take a few days to figure out where everyone fits into the new puzzle moving forward from here. There is speculation that newly acquired Derek Fisher could join the big club for this weekends tilt with the Orioles.
For now, Stewart is a member of the herd but as we learned yesterday, expect the unexpected.
