Blue Jays injury updates from Saturday, May 18th, including notes on Devon Travis, Clayton Richard, Aaron Sanchez, and Bo Bichette.

Bichette’s hand is “healing well”

According to Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith, Bo Bichette’s fractured left hand is “healing well”, the team said. Bichette, 21, was hit by a pitch on April 22nd and will, per Nicholson-Smith, begin a hitting progression sometime next week.

Sanchez hopefully back in five days

Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports that “the hope is that Aaron Sanchez will be ready in five days” after leaving Friday’s game early with what is being described as “a blister on his right middle finger.” Sanchez, now 26, carries a 3.88 ERA in 51.0 innings in 10 starts.

Borucki “throwing up to 90 feet”

Starter Ryan Borucki is now “throwing up to 90 feet” and will start long-tossing next week, per Nicholson-Smith. Borucki notably has not yet begun throwing off a mound and is not eligible to come off of the 60-day injured list until the end of this month.

Richard sent to AAA for rehab

Lefty Clayton Richard has been assigned to Triple-A Buffalo to continue his recovery from a right knee issue, the International League transactions page indicates. Richard, 35, has yet to throw a pitch for the Blue Jays after being acquired in December from San Diego. He threw 3.1 innings for the Bisons on Saturday, and it sounds like he’ll have at least one more rehab appearance before he’s a candidate for the big league rotation.

Lugs place De Paula on IL

The High-A Lansing Lugnuts have placed pitching prospect Juan De Paula on the 7-day IL, according to the Midwest League transactions page. De Paula, 21, was acquired in the Kevin Pillar trade and has since pitched to an ERA of 7.76 in Lansing.

Travis still having trouble

Finally, Nicholson-Smith reports that Devon Travis “experienced soreness during his activity progression” and received a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection to help the control inflammation. Travis, 28, followed up with his surgeon, who confirmed that there is no structural damage due to this setback, meaning he could re-start baseball activities soon.
