Phelps throwing with “no issues”
RHP David Phelps, who was signed by the Blue Jays as a free agent this winter, is throwing with “no issues” after throwing in some live batting practice sessions, according to MLB.com’s Gregor Chisholm.
Phelps, 32, spent the 2018 season with the Miami Marlins and Seattle Mariners, pitching to an ERA of 3.40 in 55.2 innings, striking out 62 and walking 26.
Pompey still “feeling concussion symptoms”
According to Keegan Matheson of Baseball Toronto, outfielder Dalton Pompey is “still feeling concussion symptoms” after hitting his head on bats in his locker earlier this spring. Matheson adds that Pompey will not participate in any baseball activity until he stops feeling those symptoms.

The Mississauga, Ontario native has not appeared in a professional baseball game since September 3, 2018, with the Buffalo Bisons.

Tepera “expected in games” by mid-April
Right-handed reliever Ryan Tepera is expected to re-join the team and pitch out of the bullpen in mid-April, per Sportsnet’s Mike Wilner. Tepera went on the injured list on March 25.
Last season, the native of Houston, Texas pitched to an ERA of 3.62 in 64.2 frames, picking up 68 strikeouts and 19 holds in 68 games.
Buchholz “candidate to join Blue Jays” by mid-April
Starter Clay Buchholz tossed 60 pitches earlier this week, Chisholm tweets. The former Philadelphia Phillie is scheduled for a 75-pitch game soon and could, per Chisholm, join the Blue Jays rotation by mid-April.
Buchholz, 34, pitched to an ERA of 2.01 in 98.1 innings last season with the Arizona Diamondbacks, fanning 81 in 16 starts, one of which was a complete game.
Borucki to be “re-evaluated” Thursday
Finally, Chisholm reports that lefty Ryan Borucki will be re-evaluated late Thursday, but he likely won’t return to the big club until the end of April. Borucki was placed on the 10-day injured list on March 25.
In 17 starts last season, he pitched to an ERA of 3.87 in 97.2 frames, boasting a WHIP of 1.321 and a respectable FIP of 3.80.
