Updated numbers, figures, and quotes regarding the Blue Jays’ hiring of Charlie Montoyo, the 13th manager in club history.

The Blue Jays hired former Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Charlie Montoyo as manager Thursday, leading many to speculate on the exact terms of his contract. Shortly after the announcement, several details surfaced regarding the nature of his contact.

According to Laura Armstrong of the Toronto Star, Montoyo’s deal is three years, which extends until the 2021 season, and also includes a team option for the 2022 season. No contract amounts have become available.

Montoyo himself spoke about the hiring shortly after it was announced, saying:

"“I am extremely honoured and humbled to join the Toronto Blue Jays organization and I would like to thank Mark [Shapiro] and Ross [Atkins] for this amazing opportunity.
