Blue Jays: Career minor-leaguer Jon Berti has season to remember

Minor-leaguer Jon Berti finally received the call he waited nearly a decade for, the speedy infielder may now be in the Blue Jays plans for 2019 after a season to remember.

Jon Berti was granted free agency in the offseason however he re-upped with the Toronto Blue Jays just over two months later in January. Berti would then be purchased by the Cleveland Indians on April 21st before returning to the Jays organization on June 07th.

The 28-year old would return home after the minor league season concluded, no September call-up in the works. However, on September 26th the Blue Jays required an infielder after Devon Travis was shelved for the final week of the season. The Jays would summon Berti to the big club with the career minor-leaguer seeing action in four games before the conclusion of the season.

Berti whose style resembles that of Reed Johnson on the diamond impressed in his cup of coffee in the show. The speedy infielder went 4 for 15 with a double, triple and stolen base while knocking in two.

This all off the heels of an impressive minor-league campaign where Berti hit .296/.384/.446 with eight homers and 29 stolen bases in 101 games (72 New Hampshire, 25 Columbus, 4 Buffalo).

Berti has experience playing all over the infield and outfield including centerfield throughout his minor league career. He boasts 265 minor league stolen bases and could be in the conversation for a bench role next season with the Jays if he continues to impress during spring training.

One thing is guaranteed, you will never see Berti lollygag up the first base line like we witnessed Yangervis Solarte do all season long.
