Blue Jays: An update on the Roberto Osuna trial – 9/20/18
Though no longer a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, the Roberto Osuna trial can still be a monumental one in deciding the future of MLB’s policies.
Houston Astros fans will have to wait just a little bit longer to see what will become of their star closer, Roberto Osuna. As Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reported Wednesday morning on Twitter, there was “no resolution” to the court date that took place the same morning.
Nicholson-Smith goes on to note that Osuna’s next Toronto court date is set for Tuesday, September 25, when, coincidentally, the Houston Astros come to town for a three-game set against the Jays. Per the report, Osuna’s legal team did not specify whether or not he would appear in court on the next date. No other details have since been released.

Osuna, despite recent uncertainty concerning his future, has pitched quite well for the Astros. In 19 games, he’s pitched to a 2.41 ERA in 18.2 innings, saving nine games and striking out 17 and walking just three, sporting a record of 2-2.
Since Osuna joined the team, the Astros have, as a unit, enjoyed success since acquiring Osuna, going 23-14 since he joined the team in late July. As an Astro, he has amassed 0.5 WAR.
While the upcoming series against the Jays bears no real importance for the boys in blue at this point, the Astros will certainly be pressing to win at least the series. With a five-game lead over the surging Oakland Athletics, the Astros have lowered their divisional magic number to 7 and will head to Toronto to try and finish the job.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays have gotten some solid production from the pieces they got back in the deal, mainly closer Ken Giles, who has racked up 11 saves since the trade despite a 4.86 ERA.
