Blue Jays: Kendrys Morales is well positioned to tie MLB record
Toronto Blue Jays slugger Kendrys Morales is well positioned to tie the MLB consecutive home run record as he faces off against David Hess of the Baltimore Orioles on Monday.
Kendrys Morales took sole possession of the Blue Jays franchise consecutive home run record yesterday afternoon when Morales went deep for the seventh game in a row. The designated hitter surpassed outfielder Jose Cruz Jr. who held the team record of six consecutive games with a round-tripper.
The 35-year old will now attempt to tie Ken Griffey Jr. Dale Long and Don Mattingly for the MLB record versus a pitcher that Morales is currently hitting .667 off of this season. Morales has four hits including a home run this season off Hess in six at-bats.
The 2018 campaign has been a tale of two seasons for Morales who struggled mightily in the first half of the season. Morales had an awful April hitting .160 over the first month of the campaign, however, the aging slugger has definitely found his groove of late. Yesterday’s homer was the ninth for the month of August and raises his total to 21 for the season.
Manager John Gibbons praised his slugger reiterating just how difficult this accolade is to accomplish at the major league level.
“That’s pretty impressive, It’d be something if he kept this rolling. I don’t think any of us can comprehend how hard it is to do.”

The lowly Orioles are a good bet for Morales to keep the streak alive especially seeing he already has five homers in 11 games versus Baltimore in 2018. Aside from Hess, Morales has also squared up Andrew Cashner twice as well as Dylan Bundy and Alex Cobb this season.
The Orioles were already victimized by the steak last week as Morales homered four times in the Jays three-game series sweep over the O’s.
Hopefully, Hess and company will succumb once again tonight to the mighty bat of Kendrys.
