The Toronto Blue Jays could possibly find a trade partner for pending free agent Marco Estrada in the Seattle Mariners who are currently pitching deprived and challenging for a playoff spot in the American League West.

The M’s once again lost their ace James Paxton to injury, this time after he was struck in the arm with a line drive and they have also relegated former Cy Young winner Felix Hernandez to the bullpen following his continued struggles.

The depleted starting staff now features the likes of Mike Leake, Marco Gonzalez, Erasmo Ramirez and Wade LeBlanc with Paxton’s replacement not yet known. Estrada could slot into the rotation and provide a veteran presence with proven postseason success on his resume.

It appears the Mariners averted a potential crisis on the Paxton injury as the Canadian will be sidelined with just a bruised forearm even though his anticipated return date is still not yet known. Seattle sits 2.5 games back of a wild-card berth as they attempt to keep pace with the red-hot Oakland Athletics for that final spot.

Estrada earned the victory last night surrendering four runs to the lowly Royals, however, two weeks earlier dazzled opposite the Mariners limiting Seattle hitters to just one run over seven solid frames. The Mariners brain trust definitely saw first hand the potential Estrada can bring to the table every fifth day.

In 21 starts this season, Marco Estrada boasts a 4.87 earned run average, however, has been much better of late locating his fastball. The 35-year-old also sports a 2.64 earned run average in 47.2 postseason innings between the Brewers and Blue Jays.

There has been no word if Estrada has been placed through or cleared waivers as of yet, news broke yesterday that Curtis Granderson did, in fact, clear waivers and can now be dealt. If he has it is safe to assume the Jays are shopping the veteran hurler and the Emerald City could be a potential landing spot.
