As we approach the non-waiver trade deadline, the rumours will continue to swirl. The latest is that the Phillies may be interested in urtis Granderson.

With the Blue Jays no loner contending, and all the expiring contracts they have on their roster, you can imagine their phones are ringing quite often.

When you think of Blue Jays that might be dealt before July 31st, you probably think of JA Happ, John Axford, Seung-Hwan Oh, and maybe even Aaron Loup. Who you might not think of is Curtis Granderson. A seasoned veteran that will bring professionalism, a veteran presence, and be a good option off the bench for whichever team wants him. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Philadelphia Phillies are that team that want him.

In his career, Granderson has played for the Tigers, Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, and now the Blue Jays. Granderson is hitting .230 on the season with 15 doubles, nine homers, and two stolen bases.

After losing out on the Machado sweepstakes, it looks as if the Phillies aren’t done bolstering their roster. They are reportedly also looking at the Mets Asdrubal Cabrera. Granderson, as said by Rosenthal, would be a good 4th outfield option for Philadelphia.

With Pillar and Grichuk under contract for the next few years, Anthony Alford and Dalton Pompey in the farm system, and Granderson being 37 years of age, the veteran probably isn’t part of Toronto’s future. It makes sense to move him.

When Granderson got flipped at last years trade deadline from the Mets to the Dodgers, the Mets received a PTBNL. That player ended up being Jacob Rhame. The Blue Jays wouldn’t be expecting to be receiving a lot in this case either.

With the trade deadline just over a week away, expect the Blue Jays to be making plenty of moves before July 31st.
