As expected, Roberto Osuna’s administrative leave has been extended by the commissioner’s office until his court date of June 18th.
According to MLB Communications on Twitter, Roberto Osuna’s administrative leave has been extended until June 18th, which is the same day he’s scheduled to appear in court. Osuna was charged with assault following an incident in which he allegedly assaulted a woman in Toronto. Since the day of his arrest, he has not played a game for the Toronto Blue Jays and has not been with the team.
Following his arrest on May 8th, Osuna was placed on administrative leave by Rob Manfred, meaning that he is still paid, but cannot appear in a game, nor can he travel with the team. According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet, this administrative leave does not count as a “disciplinary” action. Notable disciplinary actions in Major League Baseball include suspensions, bans, and other forms of restriction from baseball activity.
At this point, it is likely that Osuna’s future in baseball will largely depend on the result of his court appearance. According to a report from the Toronto Star, Osuna is also to stay away from a downtown Toronto building and may not come into contact with the woman who was reportedly involved in the alleged incident.

Prior to this extension, Osuna’s leave had been extended multiple times, each one an extension of seven days. While it’s too early to know for sure, it appears as though this could be the last extension, as the court proceedings could determine his fate.
Roberto Osuna is currently on the restricted list, which is a list of players that have been barred from playing baseball for one reason or another, but are still associated with a Major League Baseball franchise.
For the season, Osuna has appeared in 15 games, pitching to a 2.93 ERA with 13 strikeouts and nine saves over 15.1 innings. He has walked one batter and has allowed just five earned runs. As a team, the Blue Jays are 11-19 since the day of his arrest, falling to a record of 30-35 overall entering Monday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
