PHOENIX, AZ - SEPTEMBER 24: Christian Yelich

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly one of the teams with some interest in obtaining Christian Yelich from the Miami Marlins.

Christian Yelich is shaping up to be the prized jewel of the offseason as the Miami Marlins and their new ownership group continues to clean house in the sunshine state. Numerous teams are undoubtedly interested in the talented outfielder, however, it will come down to which team is willing to pay the piper in high-end prospects to acquire Yelich.

Cafardo opined yesterday in his article for the Globe that the Nationals were the latest team to get involved in the sweepstakes while the Blue Jays, Giants, Phillies, Braves, and Rangers also all appear to have interest in obtaining the controllable superstar. Cafardo mentions that the Nationals would have to part with top prospect Victor Robles in any potential deal for Yelich.

If the Blue Jays are serious about Yelich, you can bet the talks start with Bo Bichette and continue from there as “Bo” alone will not get the job done. Bichette is arguably one of the games brightest prospects and presumably will be on the Top 10 prospect list when Baseball America releases their rankings in the coming months.

Yelich sports a career 17.7 WAR after 5 seasons in Miami and also has a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger award under his belt. The outfielder is signed through 2021 with a team option/buyout for the 2022 campaign.

More from Toronto Blue Jays News

The Blue Jays have solidified their infield corps with the additions of Yangervis Solarte and Aledmys Diaz however still need to add a quality outfielder and another starting pitcher before it is all said and done.  The Jays have been linked to a plethora of outfielders this offseason ranging from Lorenzo Cain, Carlos Gonzalez, Jay Bruce and most recently Jarrod Dyson according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.

Next: Blue Jays: Bo Bichette for Christian Yelich is a no-brainer

There is no telling what the degree of interest is in Yelich but it’s reassuring the Blue Jays are potentially considering the 26-year old, however, it will all depend on the price.
