The New York Yankees could be on the verge of ruining the Blue Jays Christmas celebrations if the American League East rivals find a way to get a deal done with the Marlins for slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

The 28-year old Stanton officially waived the no-trade trump card nixing any possible deals to both St.Louis and San Francisco so the Marlins management group were forced back to the drawing board to draw up another trade.

The slugger is now apparently open to deals with the Yankees, Cubs, Dodgers, and the World Series champion Astros. Reports have surfaced that the Yankees are engaged in talks with the Marlins with Starlin Castro‘s name being rumoured in the potential swap, the Dodgers are also said to be actively involved in discussions.

The likes of Stanton and Aaron Judge in the same lineup facing our Blue Jays 18 times a season does not exactly scream “Happy Holidays”. The Yankees have the prospect depth and finances to get a deal done in short order if they are serious on Stanton.

Last season Stanton slashed .281/.376/.631 with 59 home runs and 132 runs batted in and a 7.6 WAR. Can you imagine his 2017 offensive output coupled with Judge’s 52 homers and 8.1 WAR?

Even though Shohei Ohtani may not have given the Bronx Bombers much thought as a possible landing spot. The acquisition of Stanton will definitely not detract other big-name free agents in the coming year’s from signing on the dotted line to play for the Yankees. With Bryce Harper, Manny Machado and our very own Josh Donaldson poised for free agency, the possibility of one of them ending up in pinstripes is not out of the realm.

Hopefully, another team can sweeten the Stanton pot and prevent the slugger from going to NY city for the holidays. Last time I checked I didn’t ask for a “Yankees Dynasty” on my Christmas list to Santa. Bah humbug!
