Blue Jays players excelling in Fall and Winter Leagues

The Toronto Blue Jays have a contingent of players scattered throughout the various fall and winter leagues who are impressing this far with their play.

The most promising of all the players extending their 2017 season is Lourdes Gurriel Jr. who is suiting up for the Peoria Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League. Thus far Gurriel is hitting .348 with 18 total bases including 2 home runs and a team-leading 8 runs batted in through 6 games. Regardless of the sample size, Gurriel is finally living up to expectations and showing he may make good on the $22 million commitment the Blue Jays made to him last offseason.

J.D. Davis has shown well in limited opportunities hitting .375 with a stolen base in 3 games while catcher Max Pentecost has struggled with the bat but is getting valuable innings behind the dish.

On the bump in Peoria, both T.J. Zeuch and Andrew Case have dominated Arizona Fall League hitters early on.  The former first-rounder Zeuch pitched 3 scoreless innings fanning 4 batters in his debut without surrendering a hit.

Case has made two appearances out of the bullpen without squandering a run and earning a save along the way.

Outfielder Teoscar Hernandez is playing in the Dominican Winter League for the Toros del Este and thus far is hitting .286 in 3 games. The phenom Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has struggled in his first three games for the Leones del Escogido hitting just .182 although he does have a triple to his credit.

Catcher Reese McGuire is hitting .400 in 2 games notching 2 singles in 5 plate appearances while shortstop Richard Urena just made his debut for the Gigantes del Cibao tallying a base knock in trips to the plate in his first contest.

Jason Leblebijian, Luis Santos, Chris Smith, and Jose Fernandez are also playing in the Dominican League but have seen limited action to this point.

Pitcher Nicolas Medina has looked good with the Tigres de Aragua of the Venezuelan League earning 2 wins in three scoreless relief appearances. Adonys Cardona and Kender Villegas have yet to hit their stride for their respective teams.
