Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Marco Estrada’s fate will be decided within the next 48-hours as the hurler has been claimed on revocable waivers by an unknown team.
The Blue Jays reportedly placed Marco Estrada on waivers on Friday after the pitchers impressive last four outings. The Jays now have 48-hours to either work out a deal with the unknown team, allow them to take Estrada and his remaining salary for nothing or pull him back off waivers.
Estrada is currently earning $14.5 million and is set to become a free agent after the conclusion of the season. The soft-tossing righty has had a disappointing campaign, however, has looked like his former self in his last four starts only allowing 6 runs in his last 26 innings of work.
Another positive selling feature for Estrada is his proven track record in the postseason the past two seasons. The 34-year old has proven he is not fazed by the bright lights of the big game surrendering 10 runs in 41.2 innings of work during the Blue Jays ALDS and ALCS runs.

The Jays acquired Estrada from the Milwaukee Brewer for Adam Lind in November of 2014. The Jays would go on to sign a two-year pact with the hurler keeping him north of the border at least until 2017. Estrada has openly stated he wishes to remain in Toronto and could be a trade and resign in the offseason candidate for the Jays.
This season Estrada owns an inflated 4.85 earned run average surrendering a career high 73 runs in 135.1 innings of work. Surprisingly, Estrada has raised his SO/9 total to 9.3 compared to 8.4 and 6.5 the previous two seasons when he enjoyed success.
Next: Blue Jays should lock up Marco Estrada for next season
So we will wait and see what the next 48-hours holds for the future of Marco Estrada and his career as a Toronto Blue Jay. Regardless of how it plays out, I hope they resign the change-up specialist for next season and onward.
