6. Gibbons Insinuates That Donaldson Had More Than a Good Time In Las Vegas
Blue Jays star third baseman Josh Donaldson took a trip to Las Vegas with fellow star Aaron Sanchez, and many reporters were curious as to if the team was fine with this. Gibby, like he always does, brushed it off and made a joke of the whole situation.
To start with, Gibby assured reporters that the trip was given the green light by the team. However, the main issue that arose was the fact that Donaldson went on this trip while nursing a calf injury. When asked if he received a massage for his injury, Gibbons answered with a gem of a quote.
While smirking, Gibby told the reporter that, “he is sure that he [Donaldson] got plenty of massages out there.” C’mon, John. We all know that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. This classic Gibbons quote was met with smiles and laughter from what seemed like the entire media scrum. Gibby also later went on to question why he wasn’t invited, also bringing forth a big smile from the blue eyed Jays skipper.
5. Gibby Shows Up To The Winter Meetings Slightly Underdressed
The Winter Meetings are often considered a classy affair. Executives from across the MLB show up to discuss all things baseball, including what can be done to make the league better for all the teams, and in many cases, trade talk occurs.
When searching through photos from Winter Meetings in previous years, close to 100% of the men attending the meetings were wearing either a jacket or a tie. The Winter Meetings are like any other high-profile business meeting – if you are involved, you should dress to impress. Evidently, Gibby didn’t get the memo.
In a photo taken from the event, Gibbons is seen wearing what looks like a bowling shirt. This wouldn’t be so bad if every other person in the photo wasn’t wearing something sharp, but unfortunately for Gibby, they were. While it may have gotten some laughs from fans, I’m sure it didn’t frazzle Gibbons in the slightest – he seems used to being the goofy guy that doesn’t care about what other people think of him. And we love him for that.
