Toronto has had an excellent month of May. The Blue Jays ended the month on a strong note as they swept Cincinnati Reds.

It was an afternoon delight at the Rogers Centre. The Toronto Blue Jays (26-27) and the Cincinnati Reds (24-28) wrapped up a three-game series in front of  44,058 fans.

Since it was an afternoon game, the Blue Jays rested a few of their starters as Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki, and Kevin Pillar did not get the start.

Mike Bolsinger pitched a very good ballgame. Bolsinger threw 95 pitches in 5.1 innings pitched, allowed three runs on four hits, four breaking balls, and seven strikeouts- one strikeout shy of his career high.

Aaron Loup, Jason Grilli, Joe Smith did a terrific job in relief after Bolsinger.

Tim Aldeman pitched six innings, allowed three runs on six hits, two breaking balls, and five strikeouts. Lefty Wandy Peralta and former Blue Jay Drew Storen would pitch in relief after Aldeman.

Grilli (2-4) picked up the win and Peralta (2-1) was credited with the loss. Roberto Osuna (11) earned the save.

The Reds drew first blood right away in the first. Joey Votto homered for the second time in two games. The Toronto native hit his 14th home run of the season. Kendrys Morales collected his 30th RBI of the season when he hit a sacrifice fly as the Jays trailed 2-1.

An inning later, Jose Peraza extended the Reds lead when he hit a ground-rule double to score Scott Schebler. The Reds were up 3-1.

It was a brand new ballgame in the bottom of the fifth when Ryan Goins hit a timely bunt down the third base line. Then, Luke Maile slugged his second home run, the fifth of his career, to tie it up 3-3.

The late inning magic came in favour of the Jays when Devon Travis continued to swing a hot bat. Travis gave the Blue Jays their first lead of the game with a two-out home run in the bottom of the seventh. The Blue Jays were up 5-3.

Schebler would make it a 5-4 game in the top of the ninth after hitting his 16th home run off of Osuna. The Reds refused to go down but the Jays took out the brooms to go 18-12 in May, and one game below .500.
