Jays Journal takes its daily look into the Toronto Blue Jays Minor League system.  The Buffalo Bisons have a huge inning that led to a win but the other teams let big leads slip away on Sunday.

Buffalo Bisons at Durham Bulls (Rays)
6-1 Win

Luis Santos got plenty of early support in this one and was able to coast through the Bull’s hitters for his first win of the year with the Bisons.  Santos was the beneficiary of a Bisons 5 run 4th inning.  A single and a double opened the inning and Dwight Smith Jr. came through with a bloop into left.  The single drove in the first run and the Herd kept charging through out the inning.  A few batters later Jason Leblebijian doubled to right on a hard line drive.  Two scored on the double by Leblebijian to put the Bisons up 3-1.  Jake Elmore would single to drive in a pair to put the Herd ahead 5-1.

This is all Santos needed, as he settled in and pitched 5 innings and allowed just 3 hits.  He allowed 1 run but did not walk a batter during the start.  He would throw 4 strikeouts as well.  The pen combo for the remaining 4 innings did not allow a run and allowed just 3 base runners.  John Stilson, Matt Dermody, and Leonel Campos shut the door on the Bulls Sunday.

The Bisons will have an off day Monday but return home to face the Rochester Red Wings on Tuesday evening.  Jarrett Grube will get the start and will be looking for his 3rd win of the season.

MVB – Luis Santos 5 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts

New Hampshire Fisher Cats at Binghampton Rumble Ponies (Mets)
6-7 Loss

The Fisher Cats came hot out of the box and scored 5 runs in the first 2 innings.  The lead did not last as the Ponies continually chipped away at the lead.  Conner Greene battled for 5.2 innings, but would allow 4 earned runs before exiting in the 6th.  He struck out 7 and walked 3 batters while allowing 6 hits during the outing.  The Ponies scored the final few runs against the bullpen to walk off the Cats.

Tim Lopes and Reese McGuire had 3 hit games during this one.  Lopes scored a run while McGuire score twice and drove in a run.  McGuire even stole a base during this one.  Ryan McBroom showed some boom as he unloaded a 3 run home run in the 2nd inning of this one.

Francisco Rios will be looking for his 3rd win of the season Monday night.  He has pitched well his past 2 starts but has come up short of the win in both contests.

MVFC – Reese McGuire 3-5 with a double, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, and a stolen base

Dunedin Blue Jays at Fort Myers Miracle (Twins)
6-8 Loss

The D-Jays jumped out to a 6-1 lead after the top of the 2nd inning and watched it wither away as the pitching could not contain the Miracles hitters.  Angel Perdomo got the ball to start this one for the D-Jays and was hit around during his 5 innings.  He would allow 3 earned runs on 9 hits and a walk.  The runs came mostly off of a pair of solo homers.  The bullpen could not stop the bleeding and the D-Jays slowly bleed out their lead.

Mike Reeves supplied some thunder with a 3 run homer in the second.  The home run was his first of the season. Matt Dean and Cavan Biggio had an RBI each in the inning to put up 6 runs in the 2nd.  Deiferson Barreto came into this one to replace Juan Kelly and went 2-4 with a run scored.  Lane Thomas also had a pair of hits and scored a run as well.

The D-Jays play their next game against the Tampa Yankees on Monday evening.

MVDJ – Mike Reeves 1-3 with a 3 run homer

Lansing Lugnuts at Bowling Green Hot Rods
Rain Out

The Lugnuts were unable to complete the sweep of the Hot Rods during this one due to the weather.  Their next game will be at home on Tuesday as they host the Peoria Chiefs.  Jake Ellenbest is the expected starter for the
