Blue Jays MiLB Recap: Tellez goes yard twice to lead farm hands
Jays Journal takes its daily look into the Toronto Blue Jays Minor League system. The baby Jays were paced by the explosive bat of first baseman Rowdy Tellez who homered in his first two Triple-A plate appearances yesterday.
Buffalo Bisons vs Scranton /Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Yankees) 4-2 Win
The Bisons started their season off on the right foot with a 4-2 win over the RailRiders thanks to the offensive prowess of slugger Rowdy Tellez. The Blue Jays future first baseman swatted homers in his first two at-bats sending the first one to left centre field and then crushing a laser beam to right field for his second round-tripper of the contest.
Newly signed Chris Coghlan reached base four times chipping in with two hits and two walks for the herd.
Jarrett Grube stepped up on short notice to start the game after Casey Lawrence was summoned to the big club. Grube tossed 5 innings of 6 hit ball allowing 2 runs and striking out 5 RailRiders.
Mat Latos will toe the rubber today in his Buffalo debut opposite Dietrich Enns as the hurler attempts to make his way back to the majors.
MVB – Rowdy Tellez 2-4 with 2 home runs, 2 runs batted in.
New Hampshire Fisher Cats vs Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets) 2-0 Loss Game 1
The Fisher Cats hosted a double header with the Rumble Ponies and did not fare well losing both contests on the day. Sean Reid-Foley was on the bump for the Fisher Cats, however, the Blue Jays top pitching prospect never made it out of the second inning.
Reid-Foley threw 41 pitches in 1.2 innings of work scattering a run on 3 hits and a walk while striking out 2. Luis Santos and Chris Rowley mopped up the remaining 5.1 innings of work only surrendering a single run.
Richard Urena and Anthony Alford were the only bright spots on offense for the Cats as Urena had a 3 hit day while Alford stroked 2 of his own.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats vs Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets) 8-1 Loss Game 2
Pitchers Conner Greene and Tim Mayza both struggled mightily yesterday setting the tone for the Fisher Cats 8-2 loss at the hands of the Ponies.
Greene struggled with his control walking 5 in 4.1 innings of work which led to his demise. The fireballer only yielded one hit but was still on the hook for 3 runs due to the free passes. Greene would also whiff 4 in his first outing of the season.

Mayza relieved Greene and was immediately greeted to an offensive onslaught from the Rumble Ponies tagging him for 6 hits and 4 runs in 0.1 of an inning.
On the offence, Anthony Alford again chipped in two hits and a walk reaching base 5 times in the two games. He was the only Fisher Cat with multiple hits in the second game of the doubleheader. Tim Lopes also slammed a solo home run in the 5th inning for his lone hit of the game.
The Fisher Cats will attempt to make amends for the twin bill sweep when Francisco Rios faces off versus Corey Oswalt today.
MVFC – Anthony Alford 2-2 with 2 singles and a walk
Dunedin Blue Jays vs Clearwater Threshers (Phillies) 12-6 Win
The baby Jays had their hitting shoes on yesterday as the offence exploded for 12 runs versus the Phillies farm hands.
Max Pentecost and Connor Panas each connected for big flies that left the yard pacing the offence. Pentecost also had a double while knocking in 3 on the day. Second baseman Andrew Guillotte contributed with a base-clearing double that earned him 3 runs batted in on the day.
Dunedin utilized five pitchers to get the job done with T.J. Zeuch, Ryan Cook, Jared Carkuff, Tom Robson and Justin Shafer all seeing work. Everyone with the exception of Carkuff was flawless in their outing while Carkuff got tagged for the 6 runs on 7 hits in 2 innings on the mound. Robson was awarded the win after pitching 2 scoreless innings of one-hit ball.
Angel Perdomo will attempt to keep the streak going today as he battles Cole Irvin when the Jays take on the Threshers at 1:00 pm.
MVDJ – Max Pentecost 2-5, home run, double, 3 runs batted in
Lansing Lugnuts vs Great Lakes Loons (Dodgers) 9-8 Win
The Lugnuts offence was propelled by Bradley Jones who had 3 hits on the day including a solo home run in the 7th inning. Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Nick Sinay and Michael De La Cruz also had multiple hits during the contest while Edward Olivares got on the scorecard with a solo homer of his own. Bo Bichette had a hit and his first stolen base of the season as well.
Patrick Murphy got the start toeing the rubber for 5 innings scattering 6 runs on 9 hits. Zach Jackson and Jackson McClelland came in relief of Murphy. Jackson earned the win while McClelland slammed the door for the save.
Andy Ravel gets the start today versus Devin Smeltzer of the Loons.
MVL- Bradley Jones 3-5, home run, 2 runs scored, run batted in and tight defence.
The Loons threaten in the 5th, but Bradley Jones turns a double play and handles a grounder to keep them off the board. 6-3 Nuts, mid 5th.
