Scott Copeland back where he left off with the Blue Jays
Scott Copeland is back with the Blue Jays organization and looking to get back to dominating for the Bisons
Scott Copeland, a former 21st round pick by the Baltimore Orioles in 2010, has given the Blue Jays a great value since being picked up in 2012. Copeland has had some great seasons in the Blue Jays organization.
His first full season with Toronto started in 2013 with Dunedin where he posted a 3.74 ERA over 146.2 innings. He’s only get better from there in the minors.
The following season he got a chance to play in New Hampshire with the Fisher Cats. He improved throughout the season and went on to post a 3.74 ERA in 139.2 innings. The adjustments from Copeland earned him a chance to end the season with the Buffalo Bisons at the triple-A level. He took this opportunity and never looked back. He got the start in four games with the Herd and was magnificent. In 25 innings he picked up three wins, opponents batted a mere .209 against him, and he posted a 1.04 WHIP.

Copeland started last season in a Bisons uniform and we were able to watch him continue to blossom into a solid organizational pitcher. His season totals for 2015 were astounding as he became one of the best pitchers for the Bisons. He posted an 11-6 record with a 2.95 ERA. Hitters in the International League had issues hitting him as shown as they only hit .251 against him. This performance gave him a chance to play with the Blue Jays in a few spot starts.

After making his Major League debut out of the bullpen, Copeland got his first start and was incredible. He pitched seven strong innings against the Miami Marlins and allowed just one run on six hits. The was short lived as in his only other two starts saw his ERA climb to 6.46. He was sent back down to the Bisons where he picked it back up and finished the year strong.
Jumping forward to this season’s spring training, Copeland decided to give the Korean League a chance. He played for the LG Twins and struggled, posting a 5.54 ERA. After having a rough go in Korea he returned to the United States were his spot with the Blue Jays was waiting. The Bisons 2015 pitching MVP was back and looking to pick up where he left off.
Thus far Copeland has been nothing short of spectacular and appears to be having fun on the mound. Through five starts he has a 2-1 record with a 2.10 ERA. He has not allowed more than two runs in any of his starts and has pitched 25.2 innings. Hitters have not been able to figure him out since his return and are hitting a minuscule .204 against him. Copeland will provide some great depth for the Blue Jays and could prove to be a good asset in the playoff push if the Jays seek length in their September roster expansions.

He has regained his form and will be in the conversation for the Blue Jays’ organizationaldepth going forward. He had a great start in one game last season for the big club and I would expect more of the same from him.
Copeland has met every challenge that the Jays organization has thrown at him since 2012 and there is really only one more they can give him. Give him an extended shot in the show and see what happens when the opportunity presents itself. This writer expects more of the same from Copeland and figures he will be a valuable piece of the Blue Jays organization in the near future.
