Richard Urena continues to earn his new title of MLB Pipeline’s number one Blue Jays prospect, hitting his eighth home run, a two-run shot in the first inning. Urena went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. Despite being held hitless, Anthony Alford walked twice, scored three runs, and stle his 13th base of the season. Gunnar Heidt doubled and drove in a run.
Chris Rowley allowed seven runs on six hits, including four home runs. Luis Santos took the final five innings and it was a mixed bag. Santos allowed four runs on five hits and a home run, but did strike out eight.
Lansing Lugnuts (54-49) – 3
Bowling Green Hot Rods (56-45) – 1
Max Pentecost accounted for two of the Lugnuts’ four hits, scoring once and doubling as he continues to hit everything in sight. Pentecost also stole a base, his fourth of the season. Andrew Guillotte and Juan Tejada provided the two other hits.
Justin Maese was fantastic for Lansing, striking out six in six innings of shutout ball where he allowed just three hits and a lone walk. After dominating with the Vancouver Canadians, the young right-hander – and ground ball machine – appears to be settling in very well. Kirby Snead allowed just one unearned run in two relief innings before Andrew Case earned his third save of the season.
Vancouver Canadians (16-25) – 1
Everett AquaSox (21-20) – 6
Second-baseman Cavan Biggio went 1-for-3 with a double, walk, and a run scored. Rodrigo Orozco was 2-for-4 and Jacob Anderson collected the team’s lone RBI.
T.J. Zeuch was excellent, throwing three shutout innings while allowing just one hit and striking out one. The 2016 first-rounder forced just seven ground balls. Zach Jackson bounced back with a scoreless inning before Gabe Noyalis (2.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 K) and Matt Smoral (2 H, 3 ER, 4 K) allowed the damage on the back end.
