Toronto Blue Jays scores and analysis for minor league games played on Thursday, July 14th

Buffalo Bisons (50-42)   –   1
Lehigh Valley IronPigs (53-39)   –   6

The Bisons gave up 17 hits in the lopsided loss as recent signing Wilmer Font was tagged with six earned runs over three and two-thirds innings. Pat Venditte (1.1 IP), Franklin Morales (1.0), Matt Dermody (1.0), and Colt Hynes (1.0) combined to hold Lehigh Valley scoreless for the remaining innings.

Dalton Pompey and Darrell Ceciliani both doubled, going 2-for-4 at the top of the lineup. Pompey stole his 11th bag of the season. Domonic Brown also collected a pair of hits and a walk.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats (41-49)   –   6
Portland Sea Dogs (32-58)   –   4

Four Sea Dogs errors helped the Fisher Cats squeeze out the win in the 10th inning. Christian Lopes scored twice out of the leadoff spot in a 2-for-5 day and Jason Leblebijian hit a solo home run, his fourth of the season. Rowdy Tellez moved his batting average to .295 by going 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored.

Taylor Cole had a strong start, allowing one run on five hits over five innings. Brady Dragmire allowed two runs in his lone inning. Tim Mayza (0.1 IP), Wil Browning (1.2 IP), and Chris Smith (0.0 IP, 1 H) bridged the gap to John Anderson, who picked up the blown save and win with two innings of work.

Dunedin Blue Jays (47-43)   –   7

Bradenton Marauders (48-41)   –   10

More from Jays Journal

Sean Reid-Foley faced some rare struggles, allowing six earned runs on eight hits over five and two-thirds innings. He did strike out six with zero walks, however. Jose Fernandez allowed three runs over one and two-thirds before Carlos Ramirez (1.0 IP, 1 ER) and Starlyn Suriel (0.2 IP) closed it out.

Ryan McBroom doubled twice, giving him 23 on the season, and drove in a pair of runs. Chris Colabello picked up his second double in as many games with the D-Jays, going 1-for-4. Danny Jansen was 3-for-4 with an RBI while top prospect Anthony Alford was 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI out of the leadoff spot.

Lansing Lugnuts (50-40)   –   2
Peoria Chiefs (50-40)   –   3
GAME ONE

Juan Kelly was the only Lugnut to record multiple hits, going 2-for-4, but Lansing gained little traction without an extra-base hit. Ryan Borucki allowed two runs on seven hits over five innings before Dan Lietz (1.0 IP) and Andrew Case (0.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER) took over in relief, with Peoria walking off in the bottom of the seventh.

Lansing Lugnuts (50-41)   –   0
Peoria Chiefs (51-40)   –   1
GAME TWO

Jordan Romano and Josh DeGraaf combined to no-hit the Chiefs… and lost. Romano left after five innings for injury precaution and DeGraaf handled the sixth, allowing an unearned run to cross. Lansing managed just three hits and one walk for one of the unlikeliest losses you’ll see in minor league baseball this season.

Vancouver Canadians (14-13)   –   1
Boise Hawks (10-17)   –   7

Jacob Anderson‘s solo home run represented the only Vancouver offence. Outside of a DJ McKnight double, it was all singled for the Canadians and without a walk, the base-runners did not stack up.

Luis Sanchez allowed one earned run on four hits over five innings, striking out five. Geno Encina had a tough relief outing, giving up three hits over two-thirds innings of work, before Nate Abel (0.1 IP), Grayson Huffman (1.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER), and Matt Smoral (1.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) closed out in relief.

Bluefield Blue Jays (10-10)   –   6
Princeton Rays (12-8)   –   10

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was a triple shy of the cycle, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs to raise his average to .260. Catcher Matt Morgan added a solo home run of his own in a 2-for-4 day. Nick Sinay moved his average with Bluefield to .333, going 3-for-3 with a pair of walks and two runs, stealing his 10th base of the season.

On the mound, Jose Nova pitched five shutout innings allowing just four hits and striking out five. Yennsy Diaz got hit hard over his three innings (6 H, 3 BB, 5 ER) and Christian Cox allowed three earned runs without recording an out. Chris Hall pitched the final frame, allowing two runs on two hits.
